Seed Oil Scan Checklist
A quick aisle-side sequence for deciding whether a food label needs a closer look.
Use this order
- Ignore the front-of-pack claim and find the ingredient panel.
- Read the first five ingredients first.
- Flag refined oils, dye stacks, and vague flavor or sweetener blends.
Ingredient names to watch
- Canola oil
- Soybean oil
- Corn oil
- Cottonseed oil
- Sunflower or safflower oil in heavily processed products
What matters most
The point is not ideological purity. It is to reduce the chance that you miss a heavily processed formula while shopping fast.
Faster decisions, less label fatigue
Put a caution layer between you and the ingredient list.
Use OCR to surface suspicious additives quickly, then decide whether the product earns a closer look or goes back on the shelf.
